RICHMOND B.C.'S PARKING

BYLAW   rvclssa.gif (1140 bytes)

You are not permitted to park any commercial vehicle heavier than 5,000 kg's on the city street, in your own driveway, or in an agricultural or residential zone in Richmond, B.C. unless it's a Recreational Vehicle!

There are many courier and parcel vans over 5,000 kgs in Richmond around the airport.

You are not permitted to park a courier or parcel van over 5,000 k.g.'s, like this one (above).

OUR MISSION IS TO FIGHT RICHMOND CITY'S BYLAW, SO AS EVENTUALLY THE PARKING BYLAW WILL PERMIT PARKING OF THE CAB PORTION OF A SEMI TRACTOR, NOT INCLUDING THE TRAILERS THAT MAY BE BEHIND IT.   AS WELL, ALLOW PARKING OF OTHER COMMERCIAL VEHICLES OVER 5,000 KGS.

What's wrong with parking just the cab of a Semi-Tractor in a spot like this???

Cab of a semi tractor parked easily in an apartment parking lot.

Please don't get the wrong message here....we are fighting to allow parking of commercial vehicles over 5,000 kgs., to park as freely as any recreational vehicle, but just the cab portion of a semi tractor, not including the trailers.

Large Motorhomes are permitted to park but not trucks??

If a Motorhome can park in it's own driveway why can't the cab of a semi?

It is very costly to buy a car, maintain it, and buy insurance, just to have it sit there waiting to be driven 2 or 3 times a month, if the trucker is a long distance truck driver.   The vehicle is more susceptible to vandalism sitting for extended periods of time.

The mobile Snap-On-Tool truck doesn't want to park his tools anywhere but where he can see his truck in case of vandalism.

There are many reasons you might not think of, why commercial vehicles need to be permitted to park in residential or commercial areas.

Stop the abuse the City of Richmond does to truckers!

If you bought it, a truck delivered it!

Semi Truck parked in it's own driveway at home!

The only way to initiate change is for truckers to do something...let's not sit back and take this discriminate abuse!  If we all join together maybe we can effect change!

In a matter of 3 days (May long weekend 1999), I attached about 300 or so letters onto trucks I saw parked in their driveway's. or that I saw parked in and around Richmond.  These 300 trucks could have meant approx. $19,500.00 worth of $65.00 parking tickets (revenue for the City of Richmond) if they were all illegally parked.  City council is missing out on getting the new city hall paid for!

I have also started a Petition in my area.

My hope is that if we can all join together to fight this discriminate parking bylaw all at once, maybe we will have a fighting chance.  I have already gone before Richmond City Council April 12,1999, only to be denied my request to rescind the current bylaw. There were two other parties who also requested this parking bylaw be rescinded.  But there were also two parties who complained about trucks parking, and wanted the bylaw to stay.  The two against parking beat out the three for parking?

I am sure if the two complainers had to pay the money out because of a bylaw, like the truckers do (in some cases it could cost the trucker $300 or $400 extra per month for cost of vehicle, insurance, parking and vehicle maintenance), the complainers wouldn't be requesting the parking bylaw.

Garbage trucks (55,000 lbs) are almost twice as heavy as the cab of a semi-truck tractor (26,300 lbs) and they are permitted in residential areas.
These garbage trucks make banging noises at 7AM where I live.

Garbage Trucks can pick up garbage on residential streets??

Transit Buses give off more diesel fumes when they stop and go, than a parked semi, and they don't seem to worry too much about that!

Richmond, B.C. Transit Bus gives off more diesel fumes!
